For Craft Contemporary’s fourth Clay Biennial, tierra expands beyond clay to feature 14 artists working with earth-based materials as carriers of history shaped by land, labor, displacement, and memory. Engaging the multiple meanings of “tierra” as earth, land, and soil, the exhibition explores how knowledge of place is formed and passed through making.
tierra is organized across themes of belonging, extraction, and repair, tracing relationships between emotional, cultural, and geologic ties to land and systems of colonial impact. Installed across multiple floors, it moves from lineage and ancestral knowledge to environmental critique and practices of restoration, positioning earth-based media as both material and record.
